“Someday is Today” Goal Setting

In life we are always wishing we had more time, it’s something we can never seem to get enough of.  Well, now we are in a situation where a lot of us do have extra time.  So how will we use it?

We all have those things we want to get done “some day”:

“some day I’ll write down my family history”

“some day I’ll create a scrap book of old photos”

“some day I’ll reconnect with long lost friends and relatives”

…and the list goes on.

Some day is here so, why not make lemonade out of lemons and do some of those things you always said you wanted to do?

Today I’m going to show you how to get started on your “Some Day” To Do items!

1.  Start by creating a list of all the things you want to do “some day”

Don’t hold back or sensor yourself… if you’ve ever thought, “someday I want to do this,” it should go on your list! Spend a good amount of time doing creating your list, (I would recommend doing this over the course of a couple of days because you will be surprised by how many ideas start to surface once you start this list). Compiling my list allowed me to reflect on what is really important to me.

2.  Next split the list into 2 categories:

A.  Things I can do from home

B. Things I can do in the future

We are going to focus on everything in the “Things I can do from Home” category, but you can use this logic for all of the “Things I can do in the Future” items as well.  You can see on the graphic, that I’ve placed a star next to all of the items on the list that can be completed from home.

3.  Categorize the items by length of time needed to complete.

A. Short Term Goals - goals that can be completed in a day to a few weeks

    • writing a letter to an old friend or family member

    • Watch a movie you always meant to watch

    • Reading a book

B. Long Term Goals - goals that are more time consuming & take a few weeks or more

    • Researching your family tree

    • Learning a second or third language

    • writing a novel

    • Health related goals like lowering your blood pressure, etc

4.  Start working through your goals

The hardest part for many of is the getting motivated. To help with self motivation, I recommend starting with a couple of short term goals that you are excited about.  They will get you motivated to keep working through your list.  Goal Setting is especially important right now because it helps us to feel productive and gives us a sense of accomplishment during a time when we are all facing a lot of unknowns.

Some Day IS Today! - And some of us do find ourselves with more time on our hands.  It’s especially important in times of isolation to feel connected and have a sense of purpose and optimism. Turn “Some Day” into “Today” and let it help keep you motivated.  Looking to the future, are there changes you can make now that your future self will thank you for?

What Someday goals are you most excited about? Did you find this process helpful? I’d love to hear your feedback! Leave me a comment and let me know what you thought! Stay Safe & Healthy (at home for now), Jess
